Waterfalls
The
wonderful sound of tumbling water or the steady trickle of gently flowing water
is so easy with a garden pond. Long gone are the waterfall days of rocks and
concrete, which invariably leaked.
Today we
are spoilt with pre formed cascades and waterfalls that are easily placed in
position in a matter of minutes (or just a few) to create a natural looking
waterfall.
Constructed from fibreglass or resin these waterfalls are light weight and hard
wearing. Simply place them in position on a sloping bank and let the water run.
A few
simple tips will make waterfall installation satisfactory and the overall effect
great;-
Position
the waterfall units so they tilt forward slightly, stopping water running back
under by capillary action.
Position
the waterfalls so the water running is seen from the prime viewing position
Allow at
least a 15cm (6”) drop into the pond to get the sound of water flowing.
Bed each
unit on very wet mortar with the water running, leave once it’s perfect, the
waterfall will not move later.
Place soil
against the out side of the water fall and plant with spreading alpine plants
In the
waterfall place plants with the roots wrapped in hessian sheet, suitable plants
are Oeanthe, Myosotis and Hypericum eloides
